Mulhullond Drive: Not The Movie; The Drive!

There is a little known scenic shortcut in Los Angeles that is, arguably, the most relaxing and exhilarating trek you can make in a car.

Its Mulhullond Drive, the street, which is also the name of a quirky movie, directed by Peter Lynch.

It stretches from the San Diego to Hollywood Freeways, but that makes it sound like a bunch of concrete.

Wrong!

If youre a Los Angeles local, its a winding road that lets you avoid the freeways, especially during rush hours.

I like it as a way to traverse the east side to the west side, and as a passage from the beach to either Hollywood or the Glendale-Pasadena areas.

The panoramic views, of the San Fernando Valley on one side, and the Los Angeles-Beverly Hills area to the ocean, on the other, make this drive something totally unique.

The foliage is lush and soothing, and you can kick back and crawl along at 25 miles per hour or treat this winding mountain trail as your own private speed course, which makes it a favorite of Porsche and other high performance drivers.

If you like, you can even stop at a half dozen scenic overlooks, one of which is high above Universal Studios. There are even some secret parks and hidden hiking trails if you have a little time to kill and you want a little exercise.

Mulhullond makes that rock tune come to life and have even more significance: Take The Long Way Home!

If youre touring Los Angeles or even have some business here, try this road out.

And then rent the movie!
