Over the years, our family has holidayed overseas very economically in some beautiful places. I often get asked how we can afford such amazing vacations - here are some tips to ensure that you can have an amazing holiday on a budget. 1. Book early many people leave it to the last minute to book their holiday and often pay considerably more than those who booked in good time. 2. Look at several companies there will probably be several reputable companies offering vacation rentals in your chosen area. Do a little research, order brochures and leaflets and enjoy learning a little more about the region. 3. Ask the kids, ask everyone what theyd like on their holiday. For the kids it may be simply that there is Sky TV available, for the adults it may be how far they have to drive to the nearest town or beach. 4. Make a list of what you need or want e.g. being near to the beach, distance from airport, no of bedrooms, access to a pool (shared or own), capacity, local attractions, distance to shops or coast, whether you want a luxury villa or whether a small apartment will suffice. Consider what youre prepared to pay for your weeks holiday. 5. Buy or borrow a book about the area/region this often gives you key insights as to which towns, cities or villages are likely to appeal to you, where you can find nightlife or how you can avoid it! The sweet little old world town might become a noisy place at night if its full of bars and nightclubs! 6. Read the small print. Check the reputation of the company, read the contract, look at the cancellation charges. Buy holiday insurance! Check flights/car hire prices for the nearest airport is it cheaper to fly to another nearby airport and is there availability when you want to fly? 7. Make a shortlist and email to check availability. Sit down with your partner and/or children and discuss the various options. Look at the pros and cons of the rental properties that youve found, consider all the options and make a choice. Dont procrastinate - book it! These are the key ways that our family has booked a number of villas, apartments and gites over the years and we have had some wonderful holidays with great photo albums full of memories. |
